Help Schoharie Library Replace Children's Books Lost in Hurricane Irene

  • The library in Schoharie, New York, was severely damaged during Hurricane Irene. It finally reopened on June 21, but all the children's books on the first floor were lost and the library has limited books for children. LEGO is offering $5,000 for children books to the library with the most nominations. Please take a moment to nominate our Schoharie Free Association Library in Schoharie, New York. And please consider sharing this e-mail with your friends. Only one nomination is allowed per e-mail address.

The $5000 would buy a lot of badly needed books for Schoharie children.

    The website is www.readbuildplay.com

Please help the Schoharie Free Library continue to offer the best in children's books to kids in the community--and THANK YOU!!

Six on Seniors with Robyn Ringler

I recently had the delight of talking with Ruth Tietz on a Channel 6 news webcast about the best holiday gift books for senior citizens for Six on Seniors.  Please listen and get some ideas for, not only the seniors in your life, but also all the other ages as well!  Here is the link:  http://www.bapthealth.com/six_seniors_webchat11_28.html

Here is what it's all about:

Six on Seniors from WRGB-CBS6 Albany

Ruth Tietz from Baptist Health talks with Robyn Ringler of Eastline Books about which books are great gifts this holiday season. Part 1 of 3:  Robyn shares some tips on picking out the perfect book for the senior in your life, taking into account any limitations they might have.  She also talks about the advantages of a gift certificate and the stores book delivery service.

Part 2 of 3 :  Robyn’s recommendations for older seniors:  The Autobiography of Santa Clause, The Great Santa Search, and How Mrs. Clause Saved Christmas by Jeff Guinn;  any book from the Meg Langslow Mysteries by Donna Andrews, particularly Six Geese Aslaying, and Owls Well That Ends Well; any of Anne  Perry ‘s Christmas novels, especially A Christmas Homecoming.   And there are even more suggestions on the video!

Part 3 of 3 :In this clip, Robyn shares ideas for a book that inspires  writing, especially to encourage seniors to write about their memories: Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg. She also recommends The Kitchen House,  by Kathleen Grissom, commenting that it’s  “ flying off the shelves at East Line Books…it’s being called the new ‘Help’.” ; Years of Minutes, by Andy Rooney, one of his best collections; and Stephen Kings newest book  11/22/63 about time travel and the Kennedy assassination.

Please email Robyn Ringler at RLDSR12@aol.com or call 371-4151 to reserve one of our featured books.   Or just stop in to buy a book!

A Century of Book Illustration at the Hyde Museum

Today my family and I visited the Hyde Museum in Glens Falls where an outstanding exhibit is being displayed: Draw Me a Story: A Century of Children’s Book Illustration.  This exhibit will be up through December 4th and you must see it if you love children's book illustrations--it's beautiful!!  Here is the link:

Illustrators on display include:  Kate Greenaway, Chris Van Allsburg, Tommie DePaola, Randolph Caldecott, Rosemary Wells, Peter Newell, Trina Schart Hyman, William Steig, Jules Pfeiffer, Jean DeBrunhoff, and many more.  How beautiful the artwork is and how charming are the books!  From one booklover to another, you just have to visit the Hyde!
